Carl Taylor

CEO | Recording | Live Sound | Chief Mixing Engineer

Carl founded Liquid 5th Productions in 2005, producing records for groups all over the country, pioneering modern collegiate a cappella live sound, and working alongside various organizations like CASA, the AACI, and Varsity Vocals. As a producer and mixing engineer for Liquid 5th, Carl's work has been widely recognized and awarded in the a cappella community. His work has been featured on BOCA, Voices Only, and Sing and has received numerous CARA nominations and awards. Carl has become well-known for his live sound and album production abilities. He has produced concerts for numerous groups throughout the United States, including Pentatonix, Duwende, and many more! He has run sound on some of the biggest stages in a cappella including the Pentatonix Tour, The ICCA Finals, and the Taiwan A Cappella Festival. Carl lives in Holly Springs, NC with his wife, Melissa, his son, Caleb, and his daughter, Ella.

Chris Juengel

CCO | Recording | Live Sound | Chief Editing Engineer

Chris is a singer, songwriter, and sound engineer. He has enjoyed running live sound for a cappella groups from all around the world. Doing hundreds of live a cappella shows over the last half decade has earned Chris an acute ear for the specific needs of a cappella groups in an amplified performance setting. He toured with Pentatonix as their sound technician in 2013 and has worked with PTX on multiple shows since. Chris has over a decade of a cappella recording and editing experience that places him among the top engineers in the industry. Chris lives in Burlington, NC with his wife Meredith and 4 children Brooks, Ellie, Leighton, and Natalie.

Chase Strom (Recording | Editing | Mixing | Live Sound Engineer)

Chase is from Annapolis, MD where he first found his love of music through high school choirs, bands, musicals and recording his own music. Chase studied Business Management and Music Technology at Elon University and was a member, music director and principal arranger of the co-ed a cappella group Vital Signs. Chase lead the group in recording their first studio EP, Impluse, with Liquid 5th. Through this process he began to realize his appreciation for a cappella production and Liquid 5th. Chase helped gain the group much notoriety by editing, mixing, and mastering live concert audio used in YouTube videos that have amassed over 100,000 views and earned Vital Signs an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall. He has recorded, edited, mixed, and run sound for many groups since joining the team.

Trevor Phillips (Recording | Editing | Live Sound Engineer)

Trevor studied Media Production and Music at UNC-Chapel Hill. He served as Music Director of Psalm 100, and helped lead the group from relative obscurity to preeminence in the NC a cappella community (having won state-wide competitions), as well as national acclaim (appearing on Voices Only), and co-produced 3 studio albums. He had been passionate about high quality a cappella sound, and worked tirelessly in college to educate groups about proper live a cappella sound. Consequently he recorded and produced the first live-recorded album of any UNC group. He currently lives in North Carolina working for L5 as a recording, editing, and live sound engineer.

Anders Borg (Recording | Editing Engineer)

As a student at the Durham School of the Arts, Anders Borg founded and directed the school’s first men’s a cappella group, which officially marked the beginning to his a cappella career. His varied choral experience includes working with the Durham Choral Society, Eric Whitacre, and touring through Austria and Germany. Currently studying music production/recording arts at Elon University, he serves as music director & arranger for the men’s a cappella group, Rip_Chord, and works as a technician and music theory tutor. Outside of a cappella, Anders plays bass, piano, drums, and guitar. Anders joined the L5 team in 2015 as a recording engineer.

Maggie Tobin (Arranger)

With a background in band, orchestra and choral music, award-winning arranger Maggie Tobin entered the a cappella world in 2011 when she was accepted into Florida State’s AcaBelles. Over the next four years she would serve as the group’s primary arranger, assistant music director and music director, ultimately winning a 2016 CARA for Best Arrangement (Tesselate). In 2013, the AcaBelles’ performance of her arrangement of “Royals” by Lorde went viral, garnering over eight million views on YouTube along with attention from the likes of Huffington Post, CNN, and Lorde herself. The group’s 2014 album Rebel received five CARA nominations, including Best Female Arrangement, and later that year the group won first place at the SoJam Collegiate Competition where she was awarded Best Arrangement. Maggie earned degrees in music and English as a member of FSU's class of 2015.

Joseph Aquino(Live Sound | Recording Engineer)

Joseph grew up in Lake Forest, IL and first experience his love of music at the age of 6 with his exposure to violin. From then on, music was a part of his life He studied Cognitive Neuroscience at Michigan State University, while also discovering his love of a capella with the group Spartan Sur, where he was both music director and later on, president. Working both in recording and live sound, Joseph brings his love for both the art and the technique of a capella together to make groups as happy with their sound as possible.

Josh Heilbronner (Recording | Editing | Mixing Engineer)

Raised in the Sunshine State (Florida), Josh began his musical interest early. Following in his father's footsteps, he picked up his first instrument, the trombone. From that moment on, he was in love with music. Once Josh got to high school, he sang in the award-winning choral group, OPUS. From OPUS, a smaller barbershop group was formed, which sparked his interest in a cappella. After searching for a choir at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, he found APC Rhythm, NYU's first co-ed group. After 3 years of singing, competing and traveling, he started directing the group. Although Josh's interest lies in music and post-production sound, his degree from NYU is in filmmaking and cinematography, adding yet another layer of services to the Liquid 5th team!

Meredith Juengel (Operations Manager)

From a very young age, Meredith started her musical journey with none other than piano lessons. During High School, her love for music blossomed into teaching piano lessons to children in the neighborhood and providing underprivileged children keyboard lessons at a Title 1 school in Raleigh, NC. She sang in a Sweet Adelines group and served as student director for her HS choir both junior and senior year. She was awarded a Bachelors of Music Education with a minor in Spanish, graduating with Full University Honors from UNC-Greensboro. A student at heart, she continued her education and received a Masters in Business Administration from UNCG as well as a Graphic Design Diploma. A mother of four with experience in education and project management, Meredith is no stranger to balancing schedules. So, she enjoys having the opportunity to work alongside her husband, Chris, and the rest of the L5 team applying her passion for music and business knowledge to help clients achieve award winning albums ahead of deadlines.

Josh Chopak (Sales | Recording Engineer)

Josh Chopak has considerable experience in the music industry, having worked for the Newport Jazz Festival, Marshall Lamm Public Relations, Branford Marsalis/Marsalis Music, Jason Olaine, and Harry Connick, Jr./Wilkins Management. Before joining the team, Josh was an L5 client—first with the Town Criers of Weston High, who under his direction became among the most highly awarded high school groups in the country—and second with the Chessmen of Franklin & Marshall College, for whom he served as Music Director for three years. Human-feedback.com named Josh one of "5 Up and Coming A Cappella People to Watch in 2012," and the A Cappella Blog listed Josh as #71 in its "A Cappella Cool 100" series.

Elan Wong (Recording | Editing | Live Sound Engineer)

At the age of six, Elan got his start in music by taking piano lessons from his grandfather. Since then, music has been with him everywhere. Attending Brookline High School he sang in choir as well as the District and All State choir where he met fellow Liquid 5th member, Josh Chopak. It was in his freshman year that he joined his high school all male a cappella group, the Testostatones. Elan's love for a cappella quickly grew from that point as he began arranging, recording and teaching. He graduated from Brandeis University after music directing Brandeis' VoiceMale. VoiceMale has received numerous CARA nominations as well as awards for Best Album, Best Male Soloist and Best Original Song. His passion for a cappella lies in his love for intricate and original arrangements and the power of the human voice. His work for L5 includes recording, editing, and live sound.

Brent McCready(Social Media Lead)

Brent is from right outside Raleigh, NC where he has always had a passion for music. His upbringing involved constantly being a part of choirs, musicals, or any other way he would get an opportunity to sing for people, including singing on the local news show “My Carolina Today”. Brent has experience performing a large variety of genres including rock, country, gospel, folk, and more. In high school, Brent was introduced to a cappella when he started a group called Five More Minutes. He can play the guitar, ukulele, and mandolin. In addition, he is a part of the worship team at Crossroads Fellowship church. Currently, Brent is studying marketing at Elon University, and he sings tenor in the A Capella group Twisted Measure.

Jack Blume (Recording | Editing Engineer)

Jack lives in London, UK, and became involved with a cappella at the University of Birmingham, where he joined The Sons of Pitches as beatboxer and MD. Jack won two awards for Outstanding Vocal Percussion at The Voice Festival UK, and competed at the ICCA Finals in New York City. The Sons recorded their debut EP 'Not Too Shabby' with Liquid 5th, and soon afterwards Jack began working with L5 and recording in the UK. He now works as music director for the hit show Gobsmacked! Jack also teaches VP workshops all around the UK, and has worked with many of the best collegiate and pro groups. In 2014 he judged the Scottish a Cappella Championship. Jack is the VP for London's exciting new a cappella choir 'Sound', and continues to work with The Sons, running live sound, depping, and contributing to the creative output of the group. Jack also works as a freelance film, TV and theatre composer from his London studio.

Noah Berg (Recording | Editing Engineer)

Hailing from the Jersey suburbs of NYC, Noah has carried music as a passion in his life since the age of 5. He studied the piano, violin, clarinet, tenor saxophone, and guitar. At 16, he won the state-wide 2008 New Jersey Harmonium Choral Society's Annual Choral Composition Contest, and composed a complete suite for symphonic orchestra. He participated in the various music ensembles in high school, and formed a pop-punk band, Bravest Gian who's EP is available on iTunes. Noah studied music composition at the University of Rochester and directed the all-male a cappella group, the Midnight Ramblers. His arrangements and studio work have appeared on Voices Only and BOCA, were nominated for three CARAs: Best Male Collegiate Album, Song, and Arrangement.
